Perimeter is the size inside a shape.Like perimeter, this subject is pretty easy. All you have to do is find the height and the width of the shape. So take this shape(left). You take the height(left of the square) 5 cm and the width(bottom of square) 5 cm and multiply them. 5x5= 25. So the area of this square is 25 square cm.

Triangles are a little different. With triangles, you calculate the base and the height of the shape to find the area.
Ex:
Ex:
The area of this triangle would be (8x12=) 96 sq in.
You can also find area by looking on a grid. Lets focus on figure A for now. It is 6 squares wide and 9 squares in height. Lets say that the squares are inches for now. You take 6 and multiply it by 9 to get the number of squares in the figure (area). The total should be 54 sq in.
Now try looking at figure C. The width is 4 squares and the height is 6 squares. 6 x 4 =24 square inches.
Now try looking at figure C. The width is 4 squares and the height is 6 squares. 6 x 4 =24 square inches.

- Measure one of the edges.
- Count the number of edges that the object has. For example, a cube would have 12 edges.
- Multiply the length of each edge by the number of edges. The result will be the perimeter of the 3-dimensional object.
- Measure one of the edges.
